When you can't use a tripod

For a steady shot in those hard to get places:

For low light shots my best camera is my point and shoot Fuji, which only has a 4x zoom, so I have to get pretty close to get a good shot.  Of course, when you use even that low powered a zoom, hand shake is going to blur your picture, especially in low light.  So, one needs to use a tripod, right?  But that’s mighty distracting to the other folks in an audience, say, at a concert.  Here’s a solution:  Use a bean bag neck pillow instead. I happened to have a Bucky, which works great.  Place it over a chair or pew back, nestle your camera on the top of the pillow, set it on self timer, push the shutter, sight through the LCD to make sure the shot is composed well.  Gently let go of the camera, and presto, you’ve got a terrific stready shot, without using flash or tripod, and without making a nuisance of yourself.
